22 Sep, 2026

Universal Health Services (UHS) has opened Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, a new 120-bed facility in Independence, Missouri, expanding access to behavioral healthcare in Western Missouri and the greater Kansas City region.

The 88,000-square-foot hospital represents an investment of more than $60 million and is expected to create more than 200 full-time jobs, including positions for nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff.

Three Trails will provide inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. The facility is designed to offer multiple levels of behavioral healthcare within one location.

UHS and community leaders marked the opening with a ribbon cutting Sept. 10. The hospital began welcoming patients in September.
