UCI Health to Cut 150 Jobs in Systemwide Restructuring
24 Mar, 2026

UCI Health is moving forward with a workforce reduction as part of a broader restructuring aimed at strengthening its long-term operations. According to reporting from the Orange County Register, the academic health system announced it will lay off approximately 150 employees, representing about 1% of its workforce, across its Orange County network.

The system, which includes multiple hospitals and care sites serving millions of patients across Southern California, cited financial pressures and shifts in federal funding as key drivers behind the decision. Leadership emphasized that the restructuring is designed to “sustainably operate at scale” while allowing the organization to better align resources with areas of highest patient need.

While administrative and support roles are expected to be most affected, UCI Health leaders indicated that patient-facing services will remain a priority. The move reflects broader trends in the healthcare industry, where systems are reassessing staffing and operations in response to tightening margins and evolving reimbursement models.
