CommonSpirit Health – Memorial Hospital and Lifepoint Rehabilitation officially broke ground on a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital designed to expand access to intensive, post-acute care in the in Ooltewah, Tennessee region.
The planned 40-bed facility, located on Mountain View Road, is part of a growing national partnership between the two organizations aimed at bringing high-acuity rehabilitation services closer to patients who often face long travel times to receive this level of care. Once completed, the hospital will serve patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, orthopedic surgery, and other complex conditions requiring structured, therapy-driven recovery programs.
What makes the Ooltewah facility stand out is its design philosophy: it’s built specifically around “return-to-independence” recovery rather than traditional inpatient care. Plans include a dedicated brain injury unit, advanced therapy gyms equipped with modern rehabilitation technology, and private patient rooms intended to support both clinical recovery and family involvement.
Unlike many rehab units embedded inside larger hospitals, this will be a standalone inpatient rehabilitation hospital. That distinction is important—it allows the care model to be fully centered on rehabilitation rather than shared with acute-care services. Clinicians will include rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists working in coordinated, intensive therapy teams.
The project also reflects a broader strategy from both CommonSpirit and Lifepoint Rehabilitation to expand access to post-acute care in growing suburban regions, where demand for specialized rehabilitation has outpaced available capacity.
Expected to open next spring, the hospital is positioned to become a regional hub for recovery—bringing advanced rehabilitation services, therapy innovation, and patient-centered design closer to communities across Hamilton County and surrounding areas.
