Mayo Clinic’s strategy with post-acute services
16 Sep, 2024

Mayo Clinic is partnering with Brooks Rehabilitation to open a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital on its Phoenix campus. The $70 million facility will feature 60 private rooms and cover 80,000 square feet, with plans for future expansion. It aims to serve patients recovering from severe brain and spinal cord injuries, strokes, and other complex conditions. This expansion will create over 200 jobs and further support Mayo Clinic’s post-acute care services, enhancing rehabilitation care in the region.

Mayo Clinic's strategy with post-acute services focuses on expanding care options beyond initial treatment, particularly through partnerships like the one with Brooks Rehabilitation. By building facilities such as the new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Phoenix, Mayo aims to offer specialized rehabilitation for patients recovering from severe neurological and physical conditions.

This strategy enhances their continuum of care, improving patient outcomes by providing comprehensive, high-quality rehabilitation services after acute hospital care.

The post-acute care market in the U.S. is substantial, driven by an aging population and increasing demand for rehabilitation services. In 2022, the market was valued at around $443 billion and is expected to grow significantly. It includes services like skilled nursing, inpatient rehabilitation, home health, and long-term care, as healthcare providers seek to reduce hospital readmissions and manage chronic conditions. Government policies, bundled payment models, and value-based care initiatives further promote expansion in this market.

These figures highlight the critical role of post-acute care in modern healthcare.
