01 Apr, 2025

Kaiser Permanente announced it is building a 7-story, 615,000-square-foot hospital tower at its Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, Oregon, which will open in 2029. Some other notes:

  • The new tower will include 100% private rooms, in-room telemedicine, advanced robotics, and expanded emergency room capacity.
  • The new hospital will be Oregon’s first fully electric hospital, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and improve local air quality.
  • The facility will feature green spaces, walking paths, and healing gardens to promote recovery and ease navigation for patients.

Sunnyside Medical Center, which opened in 1975, plays a significant role in the Portland metro area, offering advanced care in areas like neurosurgery and adult cancer care. Construction will begin in early 2026, with site-clearing starting in late 2025, ensuring that current services continue during the build.
