Indiana University Health has announced a $214-million investment to significantly expand healthcare access in Greater Lafayette. Approved by the IU Health Board of Directors, the multi-phase Greater Lafayette Community Growth Project will introduce the city’s first hospital in West Lafayette, a state-of-the-art cancer center at the Arnett Hospital campus, and expanded specialty care services throughout the region.
The investment underscores IU Health’s commitment to serving the growing Tippecanoe County population, according to a release. “We planted our flag early, confident in the community’s potential,” said Art Vasquez, president of IU Health’s West Region. “This is a major milestone for both IU Health and Greater Lafayette.”
The new cancer center, a 55,000-square-foot facility, will relocate services from 26th Street to the Arnett Hospital campus. It will accommodate 32 simultaneous infusion patients—an increase of 23%—and offer holistic therapies including yoga, art, and music therapy. The center will also feature advanced radiation and genomics services.
The upcoming West Lafayette hospital will provide 24/7 emergency care, inpatient services, operating rooms, a helipad, imaging and labs—making IU Health the only system to offer inpatient hospital care in the city.
Additionally, an 8,000-square-foot renovation of IU Health Medical Offices on Sagamore Parkway West will establish a multispecialty clinic, including rapid access cardiology and walk-in orthopedic services.
Construction of the cancer center and hospital begins in 2026, with both expected to open by 2028. The project will create over 210 new healthcare jobs by 2030, reflecting IU Health’s century-long legacy of innovation and service in the region.
As Vasquez noted, “This isn’t just about buildings—it’s about keeping care close to home as Greater Lafayette grows.”
