Emory-Apple hospital partnership "nation's first"
27 May, 2025

Atlanta-based Emory Health System announced that its Hillandale Hospital has become the first hospital in the United States to be fully powered by Apple products and integrated with Epic Systems, marking a significant advancement in healthcare technology.

Emory Healthcare has integrated Apple's ecosystem—including iMacs, iPads, iPhones, and Apple Watches—with Epic's electronic health record (EHR) system. This integration allows clinicians to access patient records efficiently and securely, enhancing real-time decision-making and improving patient care. For instance, nurses utilize iPhones equipped with Epic's Rover app to manage medication administration and monitor patient vitals, while iMacs on swing arms in patient rooms facilitate bedside charting and documentation.

Patients at Emory Hillandale Hospital benefit from interactive technology that empowers them to take an active role in their care. Each room is equipped with an iPad that allows patients to view care plans, order meals, access medical records, and communicate with their care teams through Epic's MyChart Bedside app. Additionally, wall-mounted iPads outside patient rooms display critical safety information, such as allergies or fall risks, aiding in care coordination and enhancing patient safety.
