BJC Medical Group opened its ninth convenient care location on the campus of Northwest HealthCare at 1225 Graham Road on November 4.
The providers at the BJC Medical Group Convenient Care at Florissant will provide services for walk-in and scheduled care for minor conditions, injuries and illnesses. They see all ages and can provide school and sports physicals, COVID-19 testing and select vaccinations.
Convenient Care Clinics are positioned as a bridge between primary care and urgent care, helping to reduce the burden on emergency departments for lower-acuity issues. This helps patients receive faster, more specialized attention for minor illnesses and injuries, such as colds, flu, sprains, or cuts.
"We are excited to offer this new option for health care to the families in North St. Louis County," said Charlotte Albinson, MD, medical director for BJC Medical Group Convenient Care services. "The new facility will offer evening hours to meet the needs of our patients, and our team is committed to delivering the highest standards of care with compassion. We look forward to providing patients accessible medical care, while growing BJC's relationship with the community."
BJC is aiming to increase the number of Convenient Care Clinics in both urban and suburban areas to improve access for patients, particularly those who may not need to visit a hospital emergency department for care. This aligns with broader trends in the healthcare industry of bringing care closer to patients' homes and offering more outpatient services.
Many of these clinics are likely to incorporate telemedicine capabilities and advanced electronic health record (EHR) systems to improve the continuity of care. This integration allows patients to see healthcare providers virtually when appropriate and allows for better coordination with other parts of BJC's larger healthcare system.
By offering lower-cost alternatives to emergency room visits or primary care, BJC is likely aiming to attract patients who are looking for more affordable healthcare options, especially those who may have high-deductible health plans or who are uninsured. Convenient Care Clinics often offer transparent pricing and shorter wait times compared to traditional emergency care.
